The Parkway Senior Living Celebrates National Nurses Week

Category: Health & Wellness

Author: Belinda Brown, Executive Director

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.

Krystal is new to The Parkway in the Director of Wellness position but has been supporting us as a Regional Wellness Coordinator for the last few months. I love Krystal’s compassion for our residents and her ability to connect with our staff. She takes extra time to get to know people and ensure that they are getting what they need. Our resident’s say, “Oh, she is so nice!” They are appreciative of her presence in the neighborhood and know they can go to her office, and she will listen to their concerns.

When asked about the wellness staff, our residents said, “They work so hard and do everything we need!” This team truly cares! I have never worked with a group of individuals who are so invested and ready to help their residents. They are always looking ahead on the schedule to see if we might need to cover openings to ensure our residents are taken care of. The wellness team cares for the residents in a way that truly makes them feel like they are in their home; they are passionate and personalize their care.

The wellness team stepped up to support the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our wellness team came together seamlessly when we had COVID in the community. They jumped in to help cover other departments within their own neighborhood, like housekeeping and serving. They also took time to look ahead and see if they could cover anything coming up that we knew was going to be open because of COVID. They took extra care with residents to ensure they had everything they needed. If they were in quarantine, they made sure to get extra things for them that they liked so that they would have everything in their apartment right at hand.

I want to give an extra shoutout to Rita, Ashley, Glecel and Charonda. These four have been working extra trying to cover open medication partner shifts and ensure that our residents are getting their medications. We appreciate our nurses and their dedication to our residents so much!

We will recognize our nurses at The Parkway Senior Living Blue Springs, MO during National Nursing Week by holding a nurse pinning ceremony for all our nurses. We will take this time to speak with them and recognize them for all their hard work. Additionally, we will have a nurses celebration lunch with all their favorites.
