The Parkway Senior Living Recognizes National Assisted Living Week

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.

This year, The Parkway Senior Living is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11^th to September 17^th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members. ​​​​​​​​​​​ ​

Being a leader of a senior living community means ensuring that residents are living their best lives with the dignity and respect they deserve. I love being able to build relationships, especially in Assisted Living and Memory Care where they might not have many visitors and bring a smile to their faces.

Our team is great at providing joyful moments through on-the-spot recognition. Our team fully embodies our core value of “The Power of a Chuckle” and we find ways to make each other laugh, even in difficult or stressful times. We like to hold events that allow us to entertain and interact with our residents. When we played “Minute to Win It” games for employee appreciation our residents served as an audience to cheer us on. We held a large Easter Egg Hunt this year and brought in a lot of family of staff and residents that all interacted together, bringing additional joy.

One of our residents said the thing that brings her the most joy about living at The Parkway is the peace of mind that she feels being safe and secure. She stated that her favorite memory here at The Parkway, so far, has been when her granddaughters came to visit her and they said, “Oh, Mimi! This apartment is a lot nicer than we thought!” That made her smile and then they stayed and played games with her in her apartment.

We plan to make National Assisted Living Week special in our community. Our intention is to create joyful moments through intergenerational activities. Our goal is to create a fun event in which we can build joy across the generations, whether that is setting up a trip to a school or holding activities here at The Parkway.
