Every year Arrow’s personal and professional development coach, Michael Buckley, asks everyone to pick a “Word of the Year.” The goal is to look inward and consider what we each need more of and what might improve our lives. Sometimes we need more focus or clarity. Sometimes we need more compassion. Sometimes we just need more fun!
Picking a word for both me and my community is a commitment to doing work on yourself and the “we” and “us” work we want to do as a community.
Looking back on 2022, we saw amazing growth in The Parkway’s leadership team. The department heads have all come together and are functioning as a cohesive unit to provide support within the community. In turn, this has created additional staffing stability in several areas. We are stable in occupancy and are growing and moving in new neighbors regularly.
Now, looking forward to 2023, what The Parkway Senior Living needs is to be intentional. The overarching goal at The Parkway is always to provide the best customer service to our residents and resident families. Choosing intentional as our word of the year will consistently drive us towards customer service by setting a focus.
Our leadership team is committed to focusing on how we show up each day. Arriving with a mindset that is intentional gears us towards completing goals. We do this through choosing our outlook for the day. We will be utilizing calendars and tools available to us to ensure we are dedicating time to the tasks and people necessary to achieve goals and outcomes; being intentional in our planning. We will set goals for our teams and will mentor them through intentionally choosing the steps to get there, whether those goals are teamwork based, task orientated, or metric related, they all are pieces in the puzzle to customer service.
I am still deciding on my word for 2023. My word for 2022 was balance, and I feel like it helped me achieve goals in a non-stressful way. I am carefully choosing my word for 2023.
What is YOUR WORD? I hope you will pick one too. What does your life need a little more of in 2023? What does “future you” thank you for working on now? Our words are meant to inspire us. If it is not inspiring, it’s not the right word.
And if you are reading this, please hold us accountable. When you visit The Parkway Senior Living or come to town hall, ask us what our word of the year is and what have we done to support it.
Please look forward to the December 2023 blog where we tell you all the ways we lived in line with our word of the year and all the ways it helped improve our community.
