Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that guides my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at The Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs, Missouri, the start of a new year offers the perfect opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for challenges and opportunities. Reflecting on 2024, I am truly amazed by how much my Word of the Year has shaped my leadership and growth.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was appreciation. During a significant transition within our Department Head Team, we recognized the importance of boosting morale and ensuring resident satisfaction by embedding appreciation into every aspect of life at The Parkway.
This focus guided my decisions and strengthened relationships, becoming the cornerstone of our plans. We worked intentionally to ensure both residents and staff felt valued and appreciated as integral members of The Parkway family. By prioritizing appreciation, we created a culture of gratitude and connection that fueled personal and professional growth.
Appreciation taught us the power of acknowledgment and gratitude in fostering a positive environment. This foundation will serve as a springboard for our next chapter as we aim to inspire others to embrace the same values.
Our Word of the Year for 2025 is inspire. Building on the lessons of appreciation, we are focusing on motivating and uplifting others. Inspire represents our commitment to encouraging residents, staff, and families to pursue growth and embrace meaningful connections.
Through inspiration, we will work to elevate our community by fostering creativity, leadership, and a shared vision for success. This word will guide our actions, helping us create a thriving environment where everyone feels motivated to contribute their best.
As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and look forward to stepping into a new chapter with my next Word of the Year. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
