Building Safety Month takes place in May every year and is internationally recognized for raising awareness in keeping buildings safe.
This initiative unites industries, associations, academia, and government under a common goal to protect the public by creating a safe and resilient environment. Our primary focus as the Plant Operations Team at The Parkway Senior Living Blue Springs, MO is keeping our residents, visitors, and staff safe.
There are a lot of tasks we perform to safeguard our community. The Plant Operations Team makes sure hallways are clear of obstructions, conducts regular fire and disaster drills, mops up spills immediately, uses wet floor signs, repairs any trip or fall hazards, and utilizes lockout/tagout protocol.
As Plant Operations Director I am responsible for both building maintenance and the safety of the residents and staff. We have excellent participation in drills; the last fire drill went very well. I am proud to say no obvious trip or fall hazards, broken glass, or sharp items were discovered during the last inspection.
I practice building safety at home. I have a fire extinguisher in my garage, keep gasoline in approved containers, and always turn off power if I am working on anything electrical.
